In the beginning............... It was JUNE 2004, The decision had been made that we were going to train greyhounds for ourselves, the show Budgerigars had gone, the garage had been scrubbed, painted and the pit filled in, we were ready. So off to Peterborough Sales.
We where there early and duly watched all the trials and made notes, and notes and more notes, our shortlist had been made and depending on price we would get one of our top ten choices. The lots came and went, one dog drifted into another
AND THEN!!!!!!!
I noticed a dog that had something about him, a quick look at the notes, ran wide, didnt run the bend, bumped, loads of back straight pace, ran on, SEPT 02 then at the times, about 3 lengths outside grading,
DO I HEAR 100 GUINEAS, he was nowhere near our top ten, i looked at karen???? and my hand went up,
there was not a murmur, then I HAVE 120, I looked at karen and up shot my hand again, 140, any more i have 140, everyone was looking for the next lot, SOLD for 140, we had our first dog,
KITS JET soon to become DRAKEYS BANDIT (WALLY).
When we picked him up from the paddock you could see the relief on the faces of the irish lads,
" YOU HAVE A RIGHT ONE THERE MATE" came out from behind the grins
and they were dead right.
